Why We Partnered with Yoloha Yoga

Jack Utermoehl

Yoga connects us not only to ourselves but also to the world around us. At Asivana Yoga we partner with brands that honor that connection through mindful design and community care.

Yoloha Yoga began in a garage when founder Chris Willey, who grew up exploring marshes with family members active in environmental organizations, was building eco‑friendly surfboards. In his search for durable, sustainable materials he discovered cork to be a renewable bark that provides excellent grip even when wet and outlasts other natural materials.

That discovery led to the first cork yoga mats hand‑laminated by Chris and his parents. Today Yoloha offers high‑quality cork products that invite practitioners to move consciously and protect the planet. Their commitment to eco‑friendly materials, craftsmanship and giving back aligns perfectly with Asivana Yoga’s mission.

What Makes YolohaΒ Yoga Special

Yoloha’s mats pair a cork surface with a base of plant‑foam or recycled rubber. Founder Chris Willey fell in love with cork because it’s renewable, durable and naturally non‑slip. Cork’s grip actually improves with moisture, eliminating the need for wax or chemical coatings.

By combining cork with plant‑based foam, Yoloha creates mats that cushion joints without compromising stability, demonstrating that sustainability and performance can coexist.

Handcrafted Beginnings and Family Values

Yoloha started as a family project in Chris’s garage. He and his parents hand‑laminated recycled rubber and cork into the first prototypes. When local yoga teachers fell in love with them, the family realized they had created something special. This spirit of collaboration and care remains central to the brand, ensuring that every product is made with intention and attention to detail.

Commitment to Service and Community

Yoloha gives back through programs that reflect ahimsa (non‑harm) and seva (service). They donate yoga mats to youth organizations like Empowered Minds, which teaches yoga and mindfulness to students in Title 1 schools. They support veterans through the Warrior Surf Foundation by providing a cork yoga mat to every participant in its twelve‑week program.

During the pandemic they sent mats to health‑care workers across the country in gratitude for their dedication. The company also partners with Amor Healing Kitchen, a Charleston‑based nonprofit that delivers plant‑based meals to people facing health challenges.

These initiatives demonstrate Yoloha’s commitment to community wellness and make each purchase part of a larger cycle of support.

Products We Love

AuraΒ CorkΒ ThickΒ YogaΒ Mat - Yoloha’s most cushioned mat combines a fine‑grain cork surface with a 6 mm plant‑foam base to provide extra support for joints. The cork offers a soft feel without sacrificing grip, which increases as moisture builds, and the mat always lays flat and resists curling. Its 72‑inch length and 26‑inch width make it slightly wider than a standard mat, yet it weighs only about 2.8 pounds for easy transport.

OriginalΒ CorkΒ YogaΒ MatΒ withΒ PlantΒ Foam - A versatile everyday mat that blends renewable cork with plant‑based foam for a supportive yet lightweight practice. The natural cork top provides reliable grip dry or wet, while the plant‑foam bottom cushions without slipping. This mat is free from PVC, latex and harsh chemicals and is designed to lie flat, making it suitable for everything from restorative sessions to vigorous flows.

NomadΒ XLΒ CorkΒ TravelΒ Mat - Ideal for home studios and outdoor practice, the Nomad XL offers a generous surface area and a lightweight design. Its premium cork top delivers non‑slip grip and easy cleaning, while a dense foam base provides stability and comfort. At just over four pounds, the mat rolls up easily for travel, proving that a spacious practice space doesn’t have to be cumbersome.
