Understanding the Full Moon Cycle
The full moon cycle connects us to the rhythms of nature. Each full moon receives its name from seasonal cues like animal activity, weather patterns, plant growth or cultural traditions. The names may vary by region and culture.
These names carry stories of people who tended the land and observed the sky. By aligning our meditations with these lunar energies, we tap into an ancestral practice that honors cycles of growth, rest and renewal.
In the sections that follow you will find a brief description of each full moon’s significance and a dedicated full moon meditation script. Each meditation begins with a mudra (hand gesture) selected from the Asivana mudra catalog.
Practicing these mudras enhances your meditation by channeling specific energies through your hands and focusing your mind. For consistency and comfort, all meditations are meant to be done in a comfortable seated position.

Mudra: Palli mudra
Palli mudra, the gesture of shelter, combines grounding and protection.
To form it, bring the tip of your ring finger to the tip of your thumb while extending the other fingers. Cross your index finger across the middle finger and let the little finger gently extend. Rest your hands on your knees with palms facing down.
This mudra fosters a sense of safety and stability, making it ideal for settling into the beginning of a new year.
Wolf Moon Guided Meditation
Find a comfortable seat on your cushion or chair. Lengthen your spine and relax your shoulders. With your hands in Palli mudra on your knees, close your eyes. Begin by observing your breath. Feel each inhalation fill your belly and ribs, and each exhalation soften your jaw and brow. [pause]
I invite you to set a clear intention for this lunar cycle. The Wolf Moon is a time of beginnings and instinct. Silently ask yourself, “What quality do I want to cultivate?” Hold this intention gently in your awareness.
Now bring your awareness to your body. Sense the way the earth supports you. Feel the weight of your sit bones on the cushion. Notice where your feet or legs make contact with the ground. Allow the back of your heart to broaden, creating space for your breath. [pause]
In your mind’s eye, imagine yourself standing in a snowy forest at twilight. The air is crisp and filled with the scent of pine. Snow crunches gently under your feet as you walk. Above the treetops, a luminous full moon rises, bathing the landscape in silver light. In the distance you hear the call of a wolf echoing through the trees. The sound stirs something primal within you like an ancient knowing. [pause]
As you continue walking, a wolf appears ahead. Its gaze meets yours with awareness and trust. Feel the connection between you and this animal. Recognize that the wolf symbolizes your own inner wisdom and instinct. Walk together through the forest, each step leaving a clear imprint in the snow. Allow the rhythm of your breath and the soft fall of snow to ground you in the present moment. [pause]
Pause and lift your head to look at the moon. Visualize a beam of soft light descending from the moon toward your forehead. Feel the light touching the space between your eyebrows. Invite this light to illuminate your path and clarify your intention. [pause]
Now turn inward and repeat your sankalpa or personal intention three times. Feel it integrating into every cell of your body. Trust that the path ahead will reveal itself with clarity, just as the wolf navigates the forest guided by instincts. [pause]
When you are ready to close the meditation, gently thank the wolf for its guidance. Watch it disappear into the trees. Observe the moonlight shimmering on the snow. Bring your awareness back to the sensation of sitting. Notice your breath again. Feel the support beneath you. Soften your hands and slowly release Palli mudra. Wiggle your fingers and toes. When it feels right, blink your eyes open, carrying the instinctual wisdom and clarity of the Wolf Moon into your day.

Mudra of the Month: Chinmaya mudra
Chinmaya mudra is the gesture of embodied knowledge.
To practice it, form a soft fist by curling your fingers into your palm. Touch the tip of your thumb to the tip of your index finger and rest the hands on your thighs with palms facing down.
This mudra grounds mental energy and draws awareness inward, making it perfect for a meditation focused on resilience and clarity.
Snow Moon Guided Meditation
Sit comfortably and place your hands in Chinmaya mudra. Close your eyes and notice your breathing. Let the inhalations be smooth and even, and allow the exhalations to lengthen naturally. Soften your jaw, unclench your teeth and allow your shoulders to drop. [pause]
The Snow Moon ushers in a time of stillness. Visualize yourself standing in a wide open field blanketed by fresh snow. The snow glistens under moonlight like millions of tiny crystals. The cold air fills your lungs with freshness, awakening your senses. [pause]
Begin walking through the field. With each step you leave a crisp footprint. Notice how the snow supports you without resistance. Feel your breath create a rhythm that warms your body from within. [pause]
Pause and lift your gaze to the sky. The moon shines brightly, surrounded by twinkling stars. Imagine its silvery light washing over you, dissolving any rigidity in your mind. Let any stagnant thoughts melt away like icicles in the midday sun. Sense a clear, steady awareness within you. [pause]
Take a deep breath and envision a seed of resilience at your heart. With each inhalation, this seed grows stronger. With each exhalation, any doubt or worry falls away like snowflakes off a branch. [pause]
Invite a sankalpa to arise naturally. It might be a word like “steadiness,” “clarity” or “patience.” Hold this word with gentleness in your heart. Allow it to infuse your breath and each footstep you imagine taking through the snowy field. [pause]
As the meditation draws to a close, picture yourself leaving the snow field and entering a warm, cozy space. Carry with you a sense of resilience and clarity. Notice how your body feels calm and grounded. Release your mudra, wiggle your fingers and toes, and gradually open your eyes. Remember that in times of challenge, you can always return to this quiet inner clarity illuminated by the Snow Moon.

Now picture the seed sprouting roots. It draws nourishment from the soil and pushes tender shoots upward. Each breath you take encourages its growth. Feel the subtle vibrations of this life force in your hands held in Brahma mudra. [pause]
Allow a sankalpa related to growth to emerge. Perhaps you are ready to cultivate creativity, confidence or self-expression. Speak your intention softly in your mind. Feel it rooted like the seed and nourished by your inner fire. [pause]
Visualize tiny earthworms moving through the soil, creating space and bringing air to the roots. Let their steady rhythm remind you that small, persistent actions lead to profound changes. [pause]
As you close the meditation, bring awareness back to your seat. Release Brahma mudra and place your hands on your thighs. Observe your breath and feel a warm glow in your abdomen. When ready, open your eyes and carry the energy of renewal and creative growth into your day.

Integrating Full Moon Meditations into Yoga Classes
These full moon meditations can enrich your yoga classes or personal practice. Here are a few ways to integrate them:
Set a Lunar Theme: Align your class theme with the energy of the current full moon. For example, during the Flower Moon emphasize abundance and gratitude, or during the Hunter’s Moon focus on preparation and insight. Use the corresponding mudra at the beginning or end of your class.
Incorporate Moon Salutations: Practice Chandra Namaskar (moon salutations) to honor lunar energy. These gentle flows balance the cooling, reflective qualities of the moon.
Offer a Guided Savasana: During the final relaxation, guide your students through the month’s meditation. Use the mudra of the month and let the visualization settle deeply. Keep your language grounded and leave [pause] moments for silent reflection.
Create Space for Sharing: After practice, invite participants to share their reflections. The full moon is an auspicious time for expression. A circle or short discussion can deepen connection and integrate insights.
Reflecting on Your Lunar Journey
Journeying through each full moon is an opportunity to attune to the natural rhythms within and around us. The lunar cycle mirrors our own cycles of growth, rest, release and renewal.
By combining guided meditation with carefully chosen mudras, you can cultivate awareness, compassion and purpose throughout the year. Each full moon is a chance to check in with yourself, plant seeds, celebrate growth or release what no longer serves you.
As the year progresses, revisit the intentions you set at each full moon. Notice how your sankalpa evolves or stays steady. Let these meditations support you in living in harmony with natural cycles and your own inner wisdom.
Whether you share these practices with your community or keep them as a personal practice, may they bring you clarity, grounded presence and joy throughout 2026 and beyond.
